Why Walk? Walking Information and Routes


You can rely on your feet to get you where you want to go. Walking for short trips is a very wise move - healthy, ready to go when you are and free!

Of all the journeys made in the West Midlands, 42% are under 2km. This is a distance that a person of average fitness can readily walk in 20-25 minutes. Car journeys account for 1/3 of these trips, so there is clearly potential for increasing the level of walking for short trips.

Walking has the advantage of being free and can be readily integrated into daily routines, especially in relation to using public transport. 

Five, thirty minutes sessions of moderate activity a week is sufficient to maintain health, reduce the risk of dying prematurely and limit the onset of chronic diseases.
